What we keep about you
Short version: your Steam ID and name, your career, and the laps you submit. Nothing is sold, nothing is used for advertising, and you can take it or delete it from the app at any time.
Who is responsible
evo.career is run by [YOUR NAME], [COUNTRY]. Questions or requests: [CONTACT EMAIL].
What is stored, and why
- Your Steam account: your SteamID64 and display name, from Sign in with Steam. To know which career is yours. We never see your Steam password.
- Your career: credits, XP, medals, licences, cars, paints and series standings. That's the game you're playing with us.
- Your runs: for each drive, the challenge, lap times, whether each lap was valid, the assists in use, a light trace of each lap (track position, speed, throttle, brake and gear about ten times a second) and race results. The server checks them before paying a medal, and keeps them for leaderboards and as evidence that a result is real.
- Sign-in sessions and tickets: hashed session tokens and the tickets that start a drive, with their times.
- Problem reports, if you send one: what you wrote and the files the app showed you before sending (its logs, this PC's checks, your settings, your last drive and AC EVO's own last two logs, which name your hardware). From the help page: what you wrote, your browser's name and version, and a file if you add one (a zip the app saved, or the installer's log). To find out what went wrong and answer you; an AI assistant (Anthropic's Claude) helps us go through the files, and a person approves every answer before you see it. Kept 90 days.
- Crash reports, sent by the app: when evo.career, its installer or an update fails, or AC EVO crashes during a drive, the app sends a short report by itself: what failed and where in the code, the app and Windows versions, the end of the app's log for that session, and for a game crash the lines of AC EVO's log around the crash. Your Windows user name, your PC's name, Steam IDs and e-mail addresses are taken out before it leaves your PC. Linked to your account when you're signed in, so it's deleted with it. Kept 90 days. Turn it off in the app: account menu → Crash reports → Don't send.
- Patreon, if you link it: your Patreon user ID and whether you support us, and at which tier, to switch your perks on.
The legal basis is the contract: running the career you signed up for (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)). Balancing the economy and the difficulty uses anonymous totals only (groups of five drivers or more, no IDs, names or times), a legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)). Crash reports are a legitimate interest too: keeping the software working for everyone who uses it, with as little data as that takes, and you can turn them off.
What stays on your PC
The app's logs, the evidence it keeps for each drive (telemetry samples, copies of the game's results files) and your settings stay in %LOCALAPPDATA%\evo.career-data on your own computer. They're only uploaded when you send a problem report (only the files the app lists before you press Send), and in part with a crash report (see above). Car renders and track images are read from your own game install and stay on your PC.
Who else handles it
- [HOSTING PROVIDER], [COUNTRY]: the server the career runs on (data processing agreement in place).
- Anthropic (USA): the AI assistant that helps us read problem reports, only the reports you send. Under their commercial terms, it isn't used to train their models.
- Valve (Steam): sign-in. Their own privacy policy applies to your Steam account.
- Patreon, if you link it. Their own privacy policy applies to your Patreon account.
We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, on this site or in the app. The website keeps two numbers per day, how often the download page was opened and how often the installer was downloaded, with no IP address or anything else about the visitor.
How long
As long as your account exists (problem reports: 90 days). Delete the account and everything linked to it is removed from the server at once; the nightly backups that still hold it are gone within 14 days.
Your rights
- Take your data: in the app, account menu → Download my data (a JSON file with everything the server has about you).
- Delete it: account menu → Delete my account.
- Correct or object: write to [CONTACT EMAIL].
- Complain: to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
